Ayo Edebiri (Actor)

Ayo Edebiri is an American actor and comedian. Born on Oct. 3, 1995 in Boston, Mass., she began to pursue comedy while attending New York University, where she majored in dramatic writing. Edebiri made a splash with a stand-up set featured on Comedy Central’s “Up Next” and starred in and co-wrote her own digital series alongside Rachel Sennott, which later aired on the network. She worked in writers rooms for FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows,” Netflix’s animated series “Big Mouth” and the Apple TV+ series “Dickinson,” on which she also played a featured role. After Jenny Slate exited “Big Mouth” so that her character, Missy, could be voiced by a Black actor, Edebiri took over the character.

Edebiri is best known for her role in the Hulu series “The Bear,” in which she plays Sydney Adamu, the reliable and aspirational sous chef to Jeremy Allen White’s troubled culinary wunderkind Carmy Berzatto. She has received critical acclaim for her turn on the series, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series. She won the Independent Spirit Award for best supporting performance in a new scripted series. Other notable credits include the black comedy “Bottoms,” on which Edebiri reunites with Sennott as a co-stars, as well as “Theater Camp,” “The Sweet East” and “Black Mirror.” She also voice stars as April O’Neil in the animated feature “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.” Beyond film and television, Edebiri is also a podcaster, co-hosting “Iconography” alongside writer and comedian Olivia Craighead.
